PBF Statement on Overturn of Roe v. Wade

The Philadelphia Bail Fund is committed to posting bail for those criminalized as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s heinous decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Our work is premised on the right to self-determination and bodily autonomy, and this ruling is an attack on our core values and all we hope to achieve.  We stand in solidarity with our colleagues in the reproductive justice movement, and understand that this decision guts a broad range of hard-won civil rights.  It is an egregious escalation of state violence, and an attack on communities already disproportionately targeted by carceral systems.

We believe all people must be able to choose if, when, and how they have children, and that access to medical care which is free from coercion and prosecution is a fundamental right and an abolitionist issue.  We therefore condemn in the strongest possible terms the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

We will continue to fight for an end to not only cash bail, but all policies which seek to criminalize fundamental freedoms.  If you or someone you know is arrested, please contact us.

In Solidarity,

The Philadelphia Bail Fund
